Carbon Fiber vs Aluminum vs Titanium Wallets: Which Should You Choose?
Every GRID wallet has the same slim shape, holds up to 12 cards, blocks RFID and carries cash in a money clip. What changes is the material, and that decides how your wallet looks, feels and wears over time. Here is how aluminum, carbon fiber and titanium compare.
The Quick Comparison
| Aluminum | Carbon Fiber | Titanium | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Material weight | Light | Lightest | Heaviest of the three |
| Strength | Strong | Very strong for its weight | Strongest |
| Scratch resistance | Good | Good | Excellent |
| Look | Five colors | Woven or marbled pattern | Natural gray metal |
| GRID price | $65 | $80 | $85 |
Aluminum Wallets
Aluminum is light, strong and easy to color, which is why it is the only material we offer in five finishes: Black, Gunmetal, Silver, Blue and Gold.
Aluminum is softer than titanium, so it can pick up scuffs on the edges after years of daily carry. Many people like the worn-in look. At $65, it is the most affordable way into a GRID wallet.
Choose aluminum if you want a color that matches your style, or you are buying your first metal wallet.
Carbon Fiber Wallets
Carbon fiber is made from thin strands of carbon set in resin. It is exceptionally strong for how little it weighs, which is why it shows up in race cars, aircraft and high-end bikes. In a wallet, that means a light, rigid plate that stays flat.
GRID offers two finishes. Classic carbon fiber has the familiar woven pattern. Forged carbon is made from chopped fibers pressed together, which creates a marbled pattern that looks different on every wallet.
Carbon fiber is our best seller, rated 4.8 out of 5 by more than 400 customers.
Choose carbon fiber if you want the lightest wallet with a look that stands out.
Titanium Wallets
Titanium has one of the best strength-to-weight ratios of any metal. It is harder than aluminum, resists corrosion and holds up to years of daily carry with very little wear. It is denser than aluminum and carbon fiber, so it has a reassuring heft in the hand.
Titanium is our most premium wallet at $85.
Choose titanium if you want the toughest wallet in the lineup, or you are buying a gift for someone who already has everything.
